My thoughts on the Mets, specifically Francisco Lindor.
I accepted a long time ago that the Mets are treated very differently than other teams.
For example…
Can you tell me with a straight face that Bobby Bonilla’s deferred contract is any more ridiculous than Bruce Sutter’s with the Braves?
Sure, the Mets being dysfunctional for long periods of time doesn’t help. But LOLMETS keeps the lights on in many offices.
STOP FEEDING INTO IT!
Look at these nonsense reports we are running with regarding the Mets trading Lindor. The media, specifically the NYC media w̶a̶n̶t̶s̶ needs us to be in a constant state of disarray.
Can you think of another team that the media would suggest trading their equivalent of Lindor the YEAR AFTER signing another player to the biggest contract in MLB history?
For the sake of argument. What teams are buyers? Ok, now. Out of those teams, who needs a shortstop?
Mets fans want to trade Francisco Lindor at his ABSOLUTE LOWEST value. What would our price be?
Which of those teams that we just identified are willing to take on Lindor’s contract? How much would we have to eat to essentially buy prospects? Again, remember. Lindor is at his absolute lowest value.
Have you zeroed in on any specific team, yet?
Do we have a shortstop ready to take Lindor’s place? This would signal a full on rebuild.
Can the fan base handle that? A complete reset? Remember in 2024, before the OMG magic, a good portion of the fan base was demanding we trade Pete Alonso because he was not “clutch.” Is this just coincidence that it’s happening again?
By the way, why are we looking to trade Lindor? And by “we” ?? I’m not even sure who we is. Are the Mets looking to deal Lindor?
Let’s ignore the nonsense reports from Bob Nightengale and company.
Why are certain fans looking to trade Lindor?
Is he done? I mean, has he peaked? Is he on the decline? Are we basing that conclusion on just the 2026 season?
Not making excuses here but he strained his calf on April 22nd. In February, he had SURGERY on his hamate bone. Does he get any grace? Forget grace does he get a normal spring training?
Before the 2026 season, Lindor was ranked as the eleventh best player in baseball. Not the eleventh best shortstop. The eleventh best PLAYER.
He’s been the BEST shortstop in baseball since we acquired him. Some people reading this are going to want to say Trea Turner. There is a Netflix documentary about Trea Turner where the fans had to get together and cheer for him because he was playing so poorly. Should the Phillies fans have gotten together and tried to get him traded instead?
Francisco Lindor is going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer. I’m not here saying that we should make our decisions on what he’s done in the past. What I’m trying to say is…. WHY ARE WE LOOKING TO TRADE HIM?
Is this injury riddled season what we are basing this decision to trade him on?
No one is crazy enough to say that he looked like he was declining in 2024. Regular season and postseason.
Was it 2025? I’m seeing that he had the fourth highest OPS among shortstops. (Wanna laugh? One of the shortstops ahead of him was Bo Bichette.)
If you’re asking me if I would trade Lindor for Bobby Witt, the answer is yes. Absolutely, I would. If you’re asking me if I would pay another team to employ him? I’m just not sure.
But you don’t need me to tell you Lindor is a great player. Maybe you do, I don’t know.
What I’m genuinely asking is why we are looking to trade him at his absolute lowest value?
Do we want more playing time for Mauricio or Baty?
If this is off the field stuff I’d like to remind everyone that this is all rumored. I’d like to remind everyone that Sal Licata said that we NEEDED to let Pete Alonso go by any means necessary because HE was the problem in the clubhouse.
Is it possible that he was wrong and Lindor was actually the issue? Was Lindor such a dark cloud in the 2025 clubhouse that he was responsible for us missing the playoffs by one game?
Call me crazy but I’m gonna blame David Peterson, Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea for 2025. Did bad vibes force the Mets to call up Jonah Tong last season?
What about this year? Was it Lindor? Clay Holmes getting hurt. David Peterson not being able to pitch. Kodai Senga walking guys in between serving up batting practice. Marcus Semien at second? Mark Vientos playing first? MJ Melendez hitting cleanup?
Do we have something concrete here? His wife works with the mayor and she wanted Alonso and Nimmo gone?
If you believe that we can debate but I’m gonna have to tell ya… David Stearns wanted Alonso gone before he took the job.
Just give me something here. Why are we looking to trade Lindor again?
