Updates After First Round Of Bidding

Multiple investors submitted their bids yesterday to become the next owners of the New York Mets.

Billionaire hedge fund manager, Steve Cohen is the lead bidder.

Cohen was one of a small number of bidders that also included Josh Harris and David Blitzer, Alex Rodríguez and Jennifer Lopez, and the Reuben brothers.

Not only does Cohen’s 2 billion dollar bid for the team makes him the current frontrunner, he also submitted a 2 billion dollar bid for (SportsNet New York) SNY!

Huge developments, here!

Steve Cohen is a familiar face, of course. Cohen and the Wilpons were believed to be in agreement back in December to increase Cohen’s ownership share. 2.6 billion dollars was the number then, which would have given Cohen 80 percent ownership of the Mets.

Jeff “Fredo” Wilpon
It ain’t the way I wanted it! I can handle things! I’m smart! Not like everybody says… like dumb… I’m smart and I want respect!

So the ball is in the Wilpon’s court.

And that scares the hell out of me.

The one thing that has me feeling optimistic, is that the cat is truly out of the bag. All their financials are now public knowledge. They are bleeding money and the pandemic has just made things worse.

They have to sell.

I think for now, we’ll leave it at that.

Steve Cohen is back in the mix after it looked like his ownership prospects were dead in the water.

Furthermore, he is now considered the favorite to become the next owner of the Mets.

But if we’ve learned anything this off-season, it’s not to count your chickens before they hatch.
