Contain your excitement Mets fans.
Todd Frazier is back.
After missing all of spring training and the first 21 regular season games with an oblique injury, Todd Frazier has been activated off the injured list. He will be available tonight as the Mets open a home stand against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Mets received some bad news as reliever Justin Wilson has been placed on the Injured List with elbow soreness. That is the corresponding move for Todd Frazier. Luis Guillorme has also been recalled as Paul Sewald will return to Syracuse. Guillorme will be in the lineup tonight as Amed Rosario is experiencing flu-like symptoms. Maybe that is why he is making an error every other inning.
Mickey Callaway says that Frazier will play a lot of third base, and JD Davis will be affected the most by his return. Jeff McNeil will still receive everyday at bats, says Callaway, although he’ll start to see more time in the outfield and less in the infield going forward.
Could you imagine if Frazier and or Jed Lowrie started the season healthy? How many at bats would Jeff McNeil have so far on the season? 10? 20?
Luckily, McNeil seized the opportunity and hit the ground running. Hopefully, Frazier can do the same now that he’s back.
Frazier is coming off a disappointing 2018 season which was marred by injuries. It was the first time Frazier dealt with trips to the injured list in his career.
The Mets will welcome Todd Frazier’s glove back with open arms, as their team defense has been atrocious to start the year.
