Depth. Depth. Depth.
The Mets have signed shortstop Adeiny Hechavarría to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. (Stop me if you’ve heard that before.)
With Luis Guillorme the only true shortstop on the roster behind Amed Rosario, picking up Hechavarría was a fantastic acquisition.
Since 2015, Hechavarria is 4th in defensive runs saved (DRS) among qualified shortstops with +26. He is a glove first option at shortstop. Some might say he is a glove only option.
He split time between the Rays, Pirates and Yankees last season, finishing with a .247/.279/.345 slash line and six home runs across 321 plate appearances.
