February 19, 2019 – Spring Training Update

We are officially in full swing down in Florida! 

Let’s get right into it.

PORT ST.  LUCIE

The Mets are staying in Port St. Lucie, after the county approved a new plan for $55 million (plus $2 million from the Mets) of upgrades for First Data Field.

“We’re pleased with today’s outcome,” the Mets said.

SPRING ROTATION

The Mets’ spring rotation is as follows, for the start of Grapefruit League games:

Feb. 23: Walker Lockett
Feb. 24: Jacob deGrom
Feb. 25: Noah Syndergaard
Feb. 26: Zack Wheeler

J.D DAVIS 

“JD Davis is going to play first, outfield (both corner spots), and “a little third. “and at this point you’re not going to see him pitch,” said Mickey Callaway .

TODD FRAZIER

Callaway: “Frazier is going to bounce between first and third base. ”

ADEINY HECHAVARRÍA

Hechavarría has passed his physical and is officially a Met. If Adeiny Hechavarria makes the Mets, he’ll earn a $3-million salary, with $1-million bonuses for 100 days and then 150 days on the active roster.

DOMINIC SMITH

No more outfield for Dom. He’ll play first base exclusively this spring, Mickey Callaway says.

EXPERIENCE

Mickey Callaway mentioned how impressive it is that the Mets now have 209 games of World Series experience between players and coaches.

BREAKING: Manny Machado has agreed to terms on a deal with the Padres. According to a league source, it’s for 10 years and $300 million – the biggest free-agent contract in the history of American sports.
