Oh boy.
In what qualifies as the news Met fans want to hear least, Jacob deGrom will not make his scheduled start tonight against the Phillies.
Walker Lockett will start in his place.
Jacob deGrom was dealing with a “hot spot” in his finger which gave him problems in his last start. This may be what’s keeping him from making his start tonight.
A hot spot? Every season you follow this team, you’re guaranteed to hear at least 3 new medical terms.
So, the best pitcher on the planet has been ruled out for tonight. To state the obvious, this rotation needs deGrom in it.
Hopefully, this isn’t a major issue.
More as we get it.
deGrom is scheduled to speak with reporters at 3:45 so we should get more clarity.
Please don’t opt out, Jake.
UPDATE: So he did not opt out.
He is dealing with a neck issue, not a finger. He was checked out and there is no structural damage.
Hopefully, he’s back sooner than later.
Good news, all things considered.
