The Mets are naming Brian Schneider their new quality control coach.
He is filling the slot which was made available when Luis Rojas became the team’s manager.
Schneider recently served as the catching coach for the Miami Marlins from 2016 to 2019. That’s important to note as Schneider will assist in instructing the catchers on the Met roster going forward.
Here’s the statement the Mets just released:
We have named Brian Schneider to the role of quality control coach. Schneider will serve as a conduit between the front office, coaching staff and players on issues including game preparation, strategy and analytics.
Schneider is making his return to the Mets. He spent the 2008 and 2009 seasons as the team’s catcher.
Brodie Van Wagenen was Schneider’s agent, in case you were wondering.
I like this signing. Schneider is a former player at the Major League level with experience on the coaching side.
Well done, Mets.
