The Mets have made another signing.
Erasmo Ramirez, come on down!
Ramirez is a 29 year old, right handed pitcher who hails from Nicaragua. Similar to the deal extended to Eduardo Nuñez yesterday, the Mets have given Ramirez an invite to spring training camp with an opportunity to fight for a roster spot.
The future looked bright at one point for Ramirez who shot through Seattle’s minor league system. He has never achieved consistent success in the majors. He’s been moved back and forth from the bullpen to the starting rotation in Seattle, Boston and Tampa Bay.
He doesn’t strike out a lot of hitters and walks between 2 and 3 hitters per 9 innings. He’s posted a 4.40 ERA over 640 innings in the bigs.
He was most successful in Tampa Bay, where he showed the Rays he could be versatile. He served as a rotation piece, a long reliever, and even closed out games.
Looks like a low-risk depth signing here for the Mets. Let’s see how he looks in camp!
