Carlos Gomez has been designated for assignment.
The outfielder has been released to make room for Noah Syndergaard, who returns from the Injured List today.
This officially ends the reunion between the Mets and the center fielder. Gomez started his career with the Amazin’s, signing with them at the age of 16.
Gomez signed a minor league deal with the team in March, and was a source of excitement when he was called up. He was in the middle of a few rallies and had some huge home runs. However, the enthusiasm surrounding Gomez was short lived.
Gomez has a slash line of just 198/.278/.337, and his defense in the outfield has been subpar. Dominic Smith has emerged as a worthy outfield option, and Michael Conforto has been playing center field, rendering Gomez all but obsolete.
Good luck, Carlos. Ye ye ye.
