The pick is in.
With the 12th pick of the 2019 MLB Draft, the Mets have selected third baseman, Brett Baty.
For the second year in a row the Mets have drafted a position player out of high school. Baty, out of Lake Travis High School in Texas is the first draft pick under the Brodie Van Wagenen-led front office.
From MLB:
“One of the best pure hitters in the draft class, Baty brings 70-grade raw power to the table with impressive strength and plus bat speed…advanced approach at the plate and a feel for putting the barrel on the ball.”
Baseball America has him ranked as the 15th overall prospect. MLB has him at number 17. The third baseman also pitched in high school, hitting 92 mph off the mound.
Baty has been dominating at the high school level, but he’s 19 years old. However, many feel like he has some of the most intriguing power potential in the draft.
Welcome, Brett!
