After being swept in Milwaukee, the last thing Mets fans wanted was injury news.
Unfortunately, that’s exactly what they got.
In his postgame press conference following the series finale against the Brewers, Mickey Callaway announced Steven Matz would be heading back to New York to get a nerve issue checked out in his forearm. Apparently, Matz has been dealing with the issue for a while, and he was unable to throw his latest bullpen.
You may be wondering why Steven Matz was used as a pinch hitter last night if his elbow is preventing him from throwing a baseball. Well, I’ve decided to take a break from making sense of Mickey Callaway’s decisions.
This news came about an hour or so after Jason Vargas left today’s game with hamstring tightness.
If you look at the options available to replace a pitcher in the Mets’ starting rotation, it’s a scary sight. Imagine having to replace two pitchers?
Let’s try and stay optimistic. Fingers crossed.
