Been gone for a while, now we’re back with the jump off.
It’s been a few months, but we’ve decided to bring the “Mets Tweet Of The Day” back.
Without further ado.
Getting Diaz and Cano certainly makes the Mets better in the short-term.
Will be interesting to see what BVW does next.

Edwin Diaz set a single season record for saving one-run leads in 2018. He’s a monster. There will be less stress late in games. The stress might return when Kelenic makes the majors in 2023. #Mets

Remember when the NL East was bad and the Mets had one of the best rotations in baseball and still couldn’t win the World Series in that window?

Hey, here’s an idea:
Keep Noah. Sign Grandal or Ramos.
Sound good, @GMBV?
— Daniel Labriola (@Dansmets19) December 11, 2018
Mets: I’d like to trade you my house for this car.
Dealer: You can just buy the car you know.
Mets: Yeah but then I’d be spending money. If I trade my house, I get the car for free. GENIUS.
— JB (@JB_August) December 11, 2018
Can the Marlins just fucking trade Realmuto to the Dodgers or Reds so I can stop hearing about him? Im so tired of this
— Stephen HOHOHOsiah (@StephenJosiah13) December 12, 2018
I'm honestly very confused as to the origins of this idea that Maldonado is better defensively than Grandal. I guess if you only paid attention during the postseason? https://t.co/M1z28k1hkU

The #Mets also have 5 of the top-50 pitchers in average fastball velocity (Min. 50 IP):
Syndergaard: 12th (97.4)
Diaz: 17th (97.3)
Familia: 32nd (96.2)
deGrom: 35th (96.0)
Wheeler: 40th (95.9)Velocities from FanGraphs https://t.co/IcjLJ2zHe3
— Mathew Brownstein (@MBrownstein89) December 14, 2018
If Noah Syndergaard were on the open market at age 26 with his stuff and track record, he'd be looking at a 10 year, 250 million dollar deal. Front offices love to talk surplus value. Well, it doesn't get much more surplus than that.#ThorStays

when the mets actually do the move that just costs money and is the better option than the other one that just costs money (maldonado) instead of the move that costs less money but your best players >>>>>>
— Marissa 🧡💙 (@MarissaMets) December 16, 2018
Just a CF thought:
Lagares ranked 17th of 82 CF'ers (min. 100 innings) in DRS (5). Lagares played just 128.1 innings.
He also hit .339/.375/.390 in just 64 PA before his untimely injury.
Of course, health is the biggest concern here.
— Rey Brutal (@ReyBrutal) December 18, 2018
Wheeler, Frazier, Lagares, TDA & Vargas are FAs after '19. Arb costs and backloaded deals have Mets' payroll est almost the same in '20 even w/o them.
Fred Wilpons is not raising payroll $30M+ to replace 2 SPs and refill their bench.
2019 is their last shot at this.
— KennyGoo (@KennyGoo) December 18, 2018
Im not normally one to bitch about the Mets payroll like some on here do on a daily basis but why does a professional baseball team in the biggest city in this country have payroll "parameters" and "constraints" that prevent them from signing big free agents year after year
— Brendan Carr (@BrendanCarr88) December 20, 2018
Steven Matz is the weirdest thing. Perhaps it's post-hype fatigue? Matz posted a 3.97 ERA last year, he's left-handed, he's as healthy as he has been (30 GS, 154 IP). He's still just 27. He could definitely take a step forward this year. https://t.co/p8cNRBtFNs

— Anthony (@evrybdyluvsant) December 22, 2018
Um yes they do. And a good one would be nice. I say for example go different from Mets MO and this time sign a lefty who gets lefties out more than righties. Crazy concept but Mets should try it. https://t.co/dJ4YmYmxMB

I wrote a fairly harsh assessment of Bud Selig today. Part of it involved him not taking any responsibility for the Steroid Era. A reader asked me why Selig bears any responsibility. I guess memories on this stuff fade, so here's a thread to remind people.

Jacob deGrom has appeared in 139 games over his five year career, & has recorded 30 starts where he went at least:
– 7 innings
– allowed no more than 1 ER
– allowed no more than 1 BBSince 1908, only 11 pitchers have posted more such starts within their first 139 games. #Mets pic.twitter.com/5DyfBkLcYY
