What a perfect picture.
Don’t want that image to mislead anybody. Steven Matz was great on Sunday. That is just how anybody who has watched this team lately feels right now.
The Mets were swept at home by the Chicago Cubs. The sweep was capped off with a 2-0 loss on Sunday. The cherry on top? The Mets had 3 hits. Chicago scored it’s 2 runs on a steal of home and a sacrifice fly hit to the second baseman.
Not really a lot to say right now. We could have swept Miami- we lost 2 of 3. We could have won a series in Milwaukee- we lost 3 of 4. We could have swept a series in Atlanta- we were fortunate to salvage a split. Then the embarrassing four-game sweep at the hands of the Cubs. The sweep of the Diamondbacks seems like years ago.
Our manager, Mickey Callaway seems to be in way over his head. The bullpen is atrocious. The roster is depleted and wasn’t constructed well to begin with.
Something that has been good? The starting pitching. Over the last 16 games, Met starters are pitching to a 2.48 ERA. (And that includes a Jason Vargas meltdown.) The problem? In those 16 games, the Mets are somehow only 5-11.
The Mets will play a two game set against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. Record wise, the Orioles are the worst team in baseball. The Mets are currently playing like the worst team in baseball.
