Grimace

The Mets have won 7 straight games.

They’ve won 11 of their last 13 contests. They had an impressive come from behind victory in England against the NL leading Phillies. Took a series from Miami, and then swept the Padres.

Right now they are in Texas, having already secured a series victory against the defending champs.

Listen. I’m not too grumpy. Usually.

I do like a good story. For example, Linsanity had me on the edge of my seat. Patrick Mazeika? Loved it.

So, yeah. The Grimace stuff is fun.

Since Grimace, McDonald’s big purple mascot threw out the first pitch at Citi Field, the Mets are undefeated.

LOLMets and Mets for Clicks is still in full effect. In the national media, Grimace has gotten all the credit for this Met hot streak.

The Mets just exist for the media to laugh at. They were loving that stretch of games where we blew a save every night. Just a few more months until the Mets are sellers!

Now that we are winning and jumping over teams in the Wildcard race it isn’t about Francisco Lindor. Not Pete Alonso or Brandon Nimmo. JD Martinez? Nope. Forget about the return of Edwin Diaz and Francisco Alvarez. Who cares about Mark Vientos?

They want this storyline to go on for a little while longer. Then they want the Mets to fall. Fall down in hilarious fashion. And then they can get down to business.

Should the Mets sell?
Trade destinations for Pete Alonso?
Is Lindor a bust?

They would love for all the Mets’ success in June to be completely attached to Grimace.

Listen, I’ll be the first to admit that most of the Mets’ wounds are self inflicted.

That being said, we are a big market team. We should strive to be more than a national joke.

Like him or not, David Stearns is a smart baseball mind. We hope that whatever decisions he makes will set us up to contend for years to come.

We don’t need to feed into midday call in radio hysteria. Every trade deadline doesn’t need to be a blockbuster. It’s possible to make improvements here and there without going completely scorched earth.

This isn’t the future I want. There are 162 games in a season. Do we really have to become “sellers” after every loss?

Nimmo and Lindor are playing under long term contracts. Aside from that we have players with exciting upside on rookie deals and players on one year deals. We are very flexible and that’s exciting.

Maybe they should trade Alonso. Maybe they shouldn’t.

Maybe we aren’t as bad as everyone thinks. Maybe we aren’t good enough to win the World Series but acquiring some pieces at the deadline could help us make a run.

This roster is flawed. Everyone in the bullpen is a question mark. Our starters rarely go more than 5 innings.

Our lineup is inconsistent.

But guess what? When Lindor, Nimmo, Alonso and JD Martinez get hot at the same time?

They are so good that people attribute the resulting success to a magic purple mascot.
