2020 MLB DRAFT: METS SELECT OF PETE CROW-ARMSTRONG

What an off-season.

And that right there, is the understatement of the century!

Tonight, all 3̶0̶, (wait, that’s not right,) 29 MLB teams (sorry, Houston Astros,) will participate in the first round of the annual amateur draft.

Every now and again, tonight felt, almost like things were back to normal. But those moments were definitely few and far between.

Negotiations between the players and owners rage on, and there doesn’t seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel. But it is nice to take a break and talk about prospective players who will potentially make up the landscape of baseball going forward.

Again, it’s hard to discuss amateur players without thinking about how minor league baseball has been decimated, and what effects that will have on the game going forward.

But let’s try. Just for a night.

In the first round of the 2020 MLB Amateur Player Draft, the Mets have selected Pete Crow-Armstrong with the 19th pick.

Armstrong is a high school outfielder at California’s Harvard-Westlake. He is the the seventh-ranked outfield prospect and the sixth-ranked high school position player. This is the third straight year the Mets have selected a high school position player in the draft.

Armstrong, who is committed to Vanderbilt University, is regarded as a “game-changer” in center field.

Will we watch our newest acquisition patrol  center field in Citi Field for years to come? Only time will tell.

We’ll be back with the complete breakdown of this selection shortly!

Congrats, Pete!

FUN FACT: Armstrong’s mother played the mother of Billy Heywood in the movie, “Little Big League.”
