Canó, McNeil Land On Injured List

I’ve been typing Injured List so much that it’s starting to feel natural. So long, Disabled List!

Also, so long, Robinson Canó and Jeff McNeil! Two Met second baseman have landed on the Injured List. Canó with a low grade left quad strain, and McNeil with a tight left hamstring.

The Mets have called up Luis Guillorme and Ryan O’Rourke from Triple-A Syracuse.

Rumor has it that Michael Conforto might return to game action tomorrow. In the meantime, we are getting contributions from unlikely sources. Last night, Juan Lagares and newly promoted Rajai Davis gave Met fans what was arguably the most exciting victory thus far in 2019. Maybe that’s because it’s the first time the Mets have won a game they trailed after seven innings.

Yoenis Céspedes, Michael Conforto, Robinson Canó, Jeff McNeil, Jed Lowrie, Justin Wilson, Brandon Nimmo. Luis Avilan. Seth Lugo. Drew Smith. All out due to injury. Notice how I didn’t name Jason Vargas? Well, he will return Saturday to take on the Detroit Tigers.

I know you’re excited but please try and control yourselves. Let’s get through this.

Steven Matz will take the mound this afternoon with the shorthanded Mets behind him trying to sweep the Washington Nationals in the series finale.
